Depending on your airline, you will arrive in Panama City either early in the morning or in the evening. Our chauffeur will meet you at the airport and take you to a centrally located hotel. During the transfer, he will share useful information and answer any immediate questions.

Panama is generally a safe country. With normal precautions, you can comfortably walk around central Panama City by day or night (we only advise avoiding El Chorrillo, San Miguelito, and Calidonia).

In the morning, your guide will pick you up at the hotel and take you by private minibus to the Miraflores Locks. The Panama Canal fascinates both adults and children. While watching the large ships pass through, your guide will explain the canal’s history, operation, and expansion.

After returning to Panama City, you will enjoy fantastic views from the Amador Causeway—on one side the canal entrance and the iconic Bridge of the Americas, on the other the modern skyline that resembles Miami. You will then explore the charming streets of the old town, where beautifully restored colonial buildings now shine again in their French, Spanish, and Italian style.

The lush rainforest surrounding the Panama Canal is home to the Embera people. Today you will visit one of their villages on the banks of the Chagres River. From your hotel, we drive by private minibus to Lake Alajuela and continue by boat along the river. A short walk to a scenic waterfall offers your first taste of the jungle—and the chance for a refreshing swim.

In the village, you will learn about Embera history and daily life and enjoy a traditional lunch of fresh fish and plantains. Their rich culture is reflected in music, dance, and beautiful handicrafts. Children can play together while parents try a fun traditional Embera tattoo—don’t worry, it washes off!

The morning is free for you to enjoy. It’s the perfect time for a stroll along the Amador Causeway, where you can take in beautiful views of the container ships and the Panama City skyline.

At midday, your Panama tour continues as we take you by private minibus to Gamboa, about an hour from the city on the Chagres River and the Panama Canal. Here, the jungle feels close and peaceful while you stay in comfortable surroundings. For the afternoon, we have arranged a scenic cable car ride. Gliding 80 meters above the ground, you pass through the treetops, spot numerous bird species and howler monkeys, and enjoy sweeping views of the tropical rainforest.

After breakfast on the hotel terrace, you may relax by the pool or visit the nearby attractions such as the aquarium, butterfly house, snake exhibit, or orchid garden. Optional excursions are also available to explore the surrounding tropical forests and rivers.

During the boat tour on Gatun Lake, you’ll go in search of local wildlife. The white-faced capuchin monkeys love fruit, and your captain will bring some along so you can observe them up close. You may also spot other animals—perhaps a cheerful toucan or a sleeping sloth hidden in the trees.

From Gamboa, you board a ship to travel along part of the Panama Canal, passing the historic Culebra Cut and the Pedro Miguel and Miraflores Locks. These impressive locks lower the vessel a total of 27 meters to sea level on the Pacific side.

A minibus will then meet you at the Marina de Flamenco and take you, in just two hours, into a completely different world. Your next destination, El Valle de Antón, lies high in Panama’s central mountain range. Known for its “eternal spring” climate and lush nature, it is a favorite weekend retreat for many Panamanian families.

Valle Anton

El Valle de Antón was formed three million years ago by a volcanic eruption that created a huge crater. Over time, it filled with water and became a large lake. Later erosion opened a gap in the crater wall, allowing the water to flow out and creating the scenic river valley that attracted early indigenous settlements.

In the morning, you will enjoy a wildlife tour through this unique volcanic valley. Your guide will pick you up at the hotel and introduce you to the area’s rich biodiversity. With a bit of luck, you may spot various animals, insects, reptiles, and a wide range of flowers and trees.

This day of your Panama journey is free for your family to enjoy. You may visit the El Níspero Zoo, known for its impressive variety of colorful frogs, including the endangered Golden Frog.

Alternatively, take a hike along ancient indigenous trails, such as the path to “La India Dormida.” This mountain formation resembles the silhouette of a sleeping woman and is linked to a local legend of unrequited love.
